Charente Vendee Attractions  This area of France has a rich variety of attractions for the holidaymaker.  Of course the miles of sandy beaches draw the crowds year after year, but there are some delightful towns and villages as well, plus vineyards aplenty with the added benefit of the home of Cognac and the local speciality Pineau. Also you will find splendid theme parks such as le Puy du Fou or Futuroscope, as well as idyllic islands, fascinating geographical features....

Aquarium at La RochelleAquarium at La Rochelle

Location: Just outside the centre of La Rochelle, but easily accessible and sign-posted whether you arrive by car (nearby parking) or by foot/boat from the town itself. Taking the small boat across the harbour is fun.
General Information: www.aquarium-larochelle.com.
Tel No: 0(5) 46 34 00 00 Open all year. Adults €12.50 and 3-17 year olds €9.50. A  family of 6 gets one child free.
Description: A first class aquarium (one of Europe’s best) offering a fascinating insight into the flora and fauna in the murky depths of the sea.
Our Recommendations: Allow at least 3 hours to get the most out of your visit and be aware that the Aquarium is open until 11.00pm in July and August. The restaurant is good value if you fancy breaking your visit with a bite to eat.
For the Children: This is a great place for children with so much to see. It is hard to pick out the most memorable bits but our children especially enjoyed the lagoon and the wonderfully coloured fish, the tropical greenhouse with water turtles wandering around and Accessible for allthe lift that initially takes you to the start of the exhibition from which you emerge in a ‘tunnel’ of water.
