 Gites
are
self catering cottages or villas. There are thousands of gites in France available for holiday
rental. Prices range from a
few hundred pounds for smaller cottages in the less popular and
northerly locations, to several thousand pounds in the more popular
locations. The benefit of renting a cottage is that you can have
your own space and really get away from it all. If you don't want
to cater for yourself it may be possible to
arrange for a fully catered service, although this can be
expensive. French gites can be more rustic than you might expect
but the best gites can be palatial....it pays to choose carefully using
our guides opposite.

Best
Gites we have stayed in:

La Verrerie. Beautiful gite with pool for 8 near Sainte Alvère, 12km
from Le Bugue. We stayed here in the hot summer of 2003 - the pool was beautifully welcome!
This barn conversion is nicely designed and has excellent facilities.
It is a bit out of the way for the main attractions (although
this never troubled us) and you will get occasional noise from the
nearby farmyard animals.

Aux Deux Soeurs
Fantastic gite on the hillside in Les Alpilles in Provence. This
location was very picturesque, part of the owner's estate.
Footpaths are lined with thyme!

Near St Geniès in the Dordogne.

Villa Bruyere near Perpignan. Arguably the most luxurious
gite we've ever stayed in with touches that make a holiday here an
absolute delight.....for example air conditioning in every room to
ensure a restful night's sleep, electric sun canopies to keep the heat
of the sun off the patio, electric gates and so on! And in a great
setting with lovely views and good access to many local amenities and
attractions.
